The town of Idrija in Slovenia has a long tradition of lace making dating back to 1696. In 19th Century the lace from Idrija found its way to wealthier classes of Western and Northern Europe. First lace school was established already in 1876 and the knowledge of Idrija lace making spread to surrounding regions. Idrija still lives with its lace making heritage and is carrying on with designing, marketing and selling lace and lace products. It is a shining example of preserving and utilising its rich cultural heritage.
